Job description

Duties may vary from time to time. Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor.
Strawberries - duties include, but are not limited to: bedding plastic, planting, covering plastic with shovels, covering berries with canvas, working in irrigation, working in the heat, bending over to prune and clean unwanted weeds, use of backpack sprayers, picking strawberries. Must be able to carry two gallons of strawberries to the designated area, packaging and labeling product, lifting plastic and removing drip tape.
Watermelon - duties include but are not limited to: bedding plastic, transplanting plants, help in irrigation, clean unwanted weeds by hand, picking watermelons, loading watermelons onto school bus, operating necessary equipment needed for production, sorting, and packaging watermelons once melons arrive at packing facility which is located on the farm, assembling boxes for shipment, operating forklifts, cleaning and sanitizing packing shed, washing hands when coming and going from packing house.
Row Crop Production - duties include but are not limited to: attach farm implements such as plow, disc, drill, planter, cultivator, along with any and all row crop equipment owned by Catesa Farms, LLC. May be asked to assist in performing other tasks such as lubricating equipment, minor repairs and replacing parts on various equipment with supervision, unloading grain into storage bins, and cleaning out grain storage bins. May be asked to assist in transporting equipment, this may include road side tire repair, and clearing necessary obstructions to allow equipment to pass through. Workers will be asked to follow instructions from the management of Catesa Farms, LLC.
General Farm Maintenance - duties include but are not limited to: mowing grass, operating weedeaters, repairing fences, picking up roots, rocks, trash, painting, and any farm maintenance instructed by Catesa Farms, LLC management.
General Work Day Behavior - Workers will be asked to show up each day with a positive attitude. All workers will show Catesa Farms staff members, property, equipment, building and housing with respect and care. Workers will be asked to work well with others and be willing to interact with others on a day-to-day basis.

Special Requirements

Applicants must be 18 years or older. Three (3) months experience in grading, sorting, and loading strawberries and watermelons, use of mechanical harvesting, cultivating, and planting equipment. Employer may conduct a criminal background check on all new employees at the owner's expense. All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to the workers. Must assist with Good Agricultural Practices policies. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. Cell phone can only be used during breaks, emergencies, and to communicate with the supervisor. Lifting requirement is from 5 to 60 lbs. Most of the workday is spent outdoors and agricultural fields and it involves exposure to sun, wind, rain, soil, mud, dust, heat, cold, and other natural elements.
