Job description

The worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of hay and livestock. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to farm maintenence. General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: maintain, drive, attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to grade roads, feed animals, fertilize and plant food plots; remove undesirable and excess growth from grounds and fence lines; maintain/repair fencing; cut wood poles and rails for fence; repair and maintain saws; perform general clean up of farm areas; operate all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties. Observe general condition of livestock and apply the appropriate care; examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain or to determine delivery time, assist in delivery; apply or administer medications, vaccines and/or insecticides; herd livestock; hoist/stack bales of hay onto wagon/truck. Be able fix any of the automatic waterers, water lines, any plumbing issues that occur on the grounds. Also be able to run and maintain a chainsaw to cut trees off of fence after storms. Maintenence on over 12 miles of roads on the farm include being able to grade, put in tubes, and maintain trails. Spraying of thistles and other noxious weeds, weedeating around main lodge and cabins, maintaining the various sump pumps as well. Other work that has to be done is maintence of cabins which may include weatherproofing, reapplying finish, chinking the logs, and caulking windows and doors. Pest control: must be able to trap small game animals, maintaining safe fences to keep predators out of livestock areas.

Special Requirements

The worker will be required to be able to run a tractor, skid steer, and backhoe. They will lift feed and mineral bags from time to time - (50 lbs) and put on a truck or UTV to feed to the animals. This is not a daily requirement. Fixing fence requires a worker to be able to load fence - 50-60 lbs at a time and to be able to lift cutoff telephone poles (75 lbs) if something were to go wrong with the fence or posts need replaced. The average day would consist of lifing 30-40 lbs of feed in a bucket (x3) and feed the animals. The worker would need to be able to grade roads and must have knowledge of this process and equipment usage. May clean out of gutters on the buildings so this person may have to be able to climb a ladder.
