Job description

All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in this job description and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in box 3 & 4 on page 1. This work order is for qualified people to perform the duties related to harvesting produce in an apple orchard. Workers must be able to pick apples and handle and climb up to a 24 foot ladder repetitively while carrying an apple picking bucket which is harnessed over the worker’s shoulders. Other duties may include picking rocks to prepare soil for planting, training and pruning apple trees, as well as other farm related duties as the need arises. When harvesting apples, productivity must be at least 60 1-1/8 bushel boxes per 7 hours worked with no more than 4% bruising for fresh market. Workers must be able to lift and carry 60 pounds on a frequent basis. In addition, workers may be asked to drive tractor, pick up brush from orchard floor, repair broken bins, and plant and water trees. Workers will operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as-needed basis. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driver’s license, no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers must be able and willing to work in varied weather conditions including hot, humid summer days during harvest as high as 90 degrees with damp mornings and as low as 15 degree and up to one foot of snow. Employer will furnish to workers without cost all tools and equipment required to perform duties assigned. Workers may require to work 7 hours shift between the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm from Monday through Friday, and may require to work 5 hours shift between the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm on a Saturday. Worker will be given 30 minutes for lunch. Beginning and ending times may vary depending upon weather and crop conditions. Workers must be able to speak and read in simple English due to Federal food safety regulations.
