Job description
A cane planter will be taken to designated fields ready to be planted that day, each crew will consist of 9 people working together, each crew will have 3 tractors pulling 3 wagons, each full of cane. Five (5) workers will get on top of a wagon parked in the field with 4 rows ready to be planted and they will be dropping 2 cane sticks every 4 feet, one (1) worker per row will be chopping cane 36 inched long. Cane planters and Choppers have to keep in mind that they should always have to meet quality standards, meeting these standards is very important and is also a very important part of our job. A cane planter should plant and chop cane 36 inches long, to be able to keep up with the machinery, the workers should be able to do a minimum of 1 row, 1/2 mile long per hour and we expect any new cane planter and chopper to meet the same minimum in 5 days of starting employment.
Employees may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available, the worker is not required to work more than the stated daily hours in the contract and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather, crop or other conditions beyond the employer’s control. These periods can occur any time throughout the season. If workers request a leave of absence during the contract period, if the worker has been offered an opportunity to work, the hours will be deducted from the hours offered under the ETA-790 for the purposes of the three-quarter guarantee.
A copy of the work contract or a copy of the ETA 790 in lieu of a work contract, and any modifications, will be provided to the H-2A worker no later than the time at which the worker applies for the Visa, or to a worker in corresponding employment, no later than on the day work commences. For an H-2A worker going from an H-2A employer to a subsequent H-2A employer, a copy of the contract will be provided no later than the time an offer of employment is made by the subsequent H-2A employer.
Special Requirements
This type of work, involves working conditions that require tremendous stamina, a high level of physical activity in cold or extremely hot conditions in direct sunlight and in adverse weather such as rain. The work requires a high level of physical conditioning.
