Job description

Level 1 Certified Ski/Snowboard Instructors will be responsible for facilitating instruction, demonstration, and care for students of all ages and abilities for ski and snowboard instruction, teaching may include class or private lessons; when children involved must be accountable for managing children, including dressing children, training and assisting students in using lifts, assisting students with their equipment, and teaching the Responsibility Code and general ski/snowboard safety to all students; instruct on ski and snowboard equipment and lifts. Specific instruction duties include explaining and demonstrating technical ski concepts using a variety of teaching methods, based off age, learning style, and ability of the students, upholding guest safety, and ensuring that students are matched to appropriate skier/snowboarding skill level. Level 1 Instructors are approved to teach levels through the beginner/novice zone. May occasionally be tasked with assisting supervisors with guest check in and check out processes for lessons, auditing classes of less experienced instructors, working one on one with students who may require additional assistance, and taking high priority lessons. Will also perform some administrative and setup duties to ensure that Ski School is setup for winter operations, including set up and organize the Ski School Facility by moving equipment and furniture, test and inspect all ski equipment that makes up the fleet of rental skis, snowboards, boots, and helmets that the Ski School program utilizes, receive or organize new inventory of ski equipment, set up the ski school kitchen, set up signage, set up the locker room, assist customers in booking ski school products for the upcoming winter season, and prepare customer packets to fulfill their upcoming reservations.

Schedule: 35 hours per week. Work schedule can vary and can include evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Work may be performed on any day of the week from Monday through Sunday. Example shifts: 7:00am to 2:00pm, 8:00am to 3:00pm, or 9:00am to 4:00pm. Shift hours may vary.

Special Requirements

PSIA/AASI Level 1 Certificate or foreign equivalent certification is required; however, employer may hire uncertified candidates who have begun the cert. requirements and have registered for the final cert. exam, provided they are able to achieve full certification prior to December 12, 2024.

Ability to ski or snowboard at an intermediate level and ride all lifts is required. Must have ability to verbally communicate, demonstrate, and explain concepts clearly to people of all ages; must be patient and nurturing to students; ability (in English) to read and comprehend and write memorandum, correspondence, and reports; ability to maintain written logs, reports, and checklists; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, students, clients, and other employees; must be able to regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move more than 100 pounds, and perform other physically demanding skills, including standing for long periods of time; must be able to work weekends and holidays, work effectively at high elevations, and function effectively in extreme cold weather conditions and in other inclement weather conditions.
