Bus Driver Duties & Tasks Description (SOC Code 53-3053 - Shuttle Drivers and Chauffeurs)

Bus Drivers are responsible for safely transporting farmworkers to and from work sites and other locations and various driving duties related to farm operations. This role requires the operation of buses and passenger vehicles, including shuttle buses and company cars, to transport farmworkers from employer-provided housing or centralized pick-up points to work sites and back. The Bus Driver operates on the farm and around farm properties during workdays, adhering to all traffic regulations and safety standards. Bus Drivers must perform routine vehicle maintenance to ensure vehicles are in good working condition, checking the tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment. They must complete accident reports when necessary, comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles safely and courteously, and ensure passengers follow safety regulations. Additionally, Bus Drivers regulate heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort and report any vehicle malfunctions or needed repairs. They test vehicle equipment, such as lights, brakes, horns, and windshield wipers, to ensure proper operation. Special qualifications, such as a valid Commercial Drivers License with a Passenger Endorsement is required.

Other tasks when not driving include the following:

Field Walking ? Walk field and assist with quality and efficiency of the crop being harvested. Such as making sure the harvesters are not leaving behind the color and size of tomatoes specified for that block by the harvesting supervisor. Assist with communication between the dumper and the harvester and management on quality or specification issues.

Harvest Dumper -Harvest dumper is required to stand on the back of a flatbed truck and catch buckets of tomatoes (approximately 34 lbs).?? The dumper will empty the contents of the bucket into various types of harvesting containers/trays that are stacked on pallets on the bed of the truck.? Dumper will place a token inside the bucket and return empty bucket back to the harvester on the ground.? The harvest dumper will serve as quality control and ensure that tomato in buckets meets the company?s quality standard.? The dumper will monitor the cleanliness of the containers/trays and remove any addition vegetation from produce inside the harvest containers/trays and toss unwanted vegetation onto the ground.? As containers/trays reach full capacity, the harvest dumper will stack additional empty containers on top of the full container and continue with the process.

Agricultural Equipment Operator - Drive and control equipment to support agricultural activities such as tilling soil; planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops; May operate equipment to perform post-harvest tasks.

Special Requirements
