Job description

Crops: Strawberries

Harvesting, crop work, cleaning, small maintenance and repairs, Pest management control, packing

All workers will receive on-the-job training on the quality standards required for the position, including: missed fruit,
harvesting technique, sorting/mis-sorting, bruising, fruit size, and fruit maturity expectations. Workers’ performance will
be audited by the employer on meeting these quality standards and assigned a quality ranking of one to five. In
addition, workers will be evaluated on their speed. For combing, workers must process a minimum of 1300 plants/hour.
For harvesting, once workers have completed 80 hours of harvesting, they must harvest at least 15 kg/hour. After 120
hours of harvesting, workers must harvest at least 19 kg/hour. When harvesting in one punnet, the harvest rate will
increase by 5 kg/hour above the requirements stated above. Workers must not have more than 15 mis-clicks or
mis-registrations in the Priva system in any given week.

In addition to the specific quality and speed standards training that will be provided post-hire, workers must demonstrate
bona fide effort to meet the employer’s work standards. Work/Job Specification Definitions: a) Sloppy: not careful or
neat: showing a lack of care, attention, or effort. b) bona fide: made with earnest intent c) earnest: serious in intention,
purpose, or effort: d) sustained: continuing for an extended period or without interruption. e) endurance: the ability or
strength to continue or last, especially despite fatigue, stress, or other adverse conditions. f) efficiently: performing or
functioning in the best possible manner with the least waste of time and effort. g) consistently: Same way over a long
period of time. Bona fide, in this context, means made with earnest intent and keeping with fellow workers.

Farm, Field, and Shed Sanitation: All workers will be responsible for picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping floors and other farm, and shed sanitation duties. The farm owner/supervisor or a designated employee will provide specific instructions and close supervision. Workers will be expected to perform their duties in a timely and proficient manner and will have close supervision to ensure adherence to instruction. Work will be closely monitored and reviewed for quality.

GENERAL CONDITIONS APPLICABLE TO ALL CROPS: Fieldwork begins at assigned time shortly after daylight. Work may be performed during light rain and in high humidity and in temperatures ranging from 110 degrees to 20 degrees F. Workers will perform the majority of tasks standing in the upright position and can expect to stand on their feet for extended periods of time. Some tasks, however, require workers to perform activities on their feet in stooped or crouched position for long periods of time. Workers will supply their own work clothes. All the tasks in this Job Description constitute one (1) job; the employer may assign workers to different tasks on any day or to multiple tasks during the same day in the sole judgment of the employer. Workers may be required to perform work, on the farm, that is incidental to farming the crops listed in the application, such as performing hand cultivation tasks, packing, weeding or hoeing, cleaning and repairing farm buildings, grounds, set up and move aluminum irrigation pipes and equipment, cleaning and maintaining drip irrigation systems, using sprayers, gardening, weeding, shrubbing, baling hay, harvesting field corn, etc. This is a very demanding and competitive business in which quality specifications must be rigorously adhered to. Sloppy work cannot and will not be tolerated.

Instructions and general supervision will be provided by the farm owner/supervisor or a designated employee. However, field workers will be expected to perform their duties in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision.

Special Requirements

Workers must have at least 3 months experience as a farmworker. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing at no cost to the employee. All drug testing will occur after the worker begins his or her employment and is not a part of the interview process. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
