Job description

The Center is for yearlings, two-year-olds in training and layups. These horses are considered race ready two-year-olds in training, they have to be trained The grooms provide daily care and handling of the yearlings, two-year-olds and some older horses, Over the next several months all yearlings begin incremental introduction to have tack on their backs, add riders to spin in their stalls, walks in the paddocks and ultimately running on the farm track. The groom's responsibilities include responsibility for the safety of the horses and nearby workers. Grooming the horses for sale, assisting in the observations of any ailments or infections which may affect the horses; administering medication and/or treating the horses under the supervision of the farm manager; using bandages which assists in the application of topical medications, rehabilitation exercises or intravenous medication; also prior to the sales of the racehorses, the horses are prepped by clipping away any unwanted hair from their manes, ankles, noses and ears; and doing daily bathing, conditioning, treatment of any soreness and stand and walk the horses for inspection by perspective buyers. The sales start in late September and continue through June. To have the horses ready, we need the additional workers as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the petition last year was filed late so we are making an effort to get the grooms here on time that is why the start date is different. The employer has had a substantial increase of horses due to his winning the Kentucky Derby this year.
