Job description

Vineyard Irrigator: Under the supervision of the Supervisor/Foreperson, performs general irrigation work of vineyards via drip/sprinkler irrigation, drip irrigation repair and maintenance, sprinkler repair and maintenance, pump/filter station operation and maintenance, drip irrigation operation reporting and record keeping, sprinkler operation and record keeping, mainline and lateral pipe repair and maintenance, drainage maintenance and repair. Understands and abides by our safety procedures and performance standards.

Agricultural Equipment Operators: In the field/vineyard: Under the supervision of the Supervisor/Foreperson, performs general tractor or over the row/challenger tractor work shredding/mowing, leaf pulling, trimming, planting, tractor or over the row/challenger tractor duties as they relate to trellis duties., pepper weed/bermuda grass control and pest control. Reports break downs and understands and abides by our safety procedures and performance standards. Employee must conduct daily maintenance check prior to operating tractor/machine. Requires basic knowledge of driving a tractor, must pass a tractor safety training and demonstrate ability to operate tractor in a safe manner.

Will need to operate an ATV or tractor to perform most duties. Can perform general maintenance on the ATV, reports break downs and understands and abides by our safety procedures and performance standards. Can fill out maintenance and progression sheets. Required basic knowledge of driving an ATV, must pass an ATV safety training and demonstrate ability to operate ATV in a safe manner.

Agricultural Vineyard General Labor: Under the supervision of the Supervisor/Foreperson, performs general vineyard labor performing the following activities such as pruning, shredding, suckering, weed control, cultivation, bird control, grape harvest, erosion control, canopy management, leaf pulling, moving wire, thinning shoots, trimming, tying, shoot positioning, replants, thinning clusters, budwood cuttings, grafting vines, planting, counting, tubes/cartons, training vines, trellis repair, and vineyard removal.

Grape Hand Harvest: Under the direction of the Supervisor/Foreman, worker will walk through the vineyards to perform hand grape harvesting by first identifying the fruit that is ready for harvest by meeting color and size requirements. Worker then clips and/or cut the bunches off each vine with the proper hand shears and places them into the plastic totes that will be found underneath the grape vines. Once the plastic tote is filled, the worker must carry the plastic tote and empty it into bin that can be found in the middle of the grape vineyard vines. Full totes can weigh up to 30lbs. The process is repeated until bin is filled.

Vineyard Forklift Driver: Under the direction of the supervisor the driver is responsible for loading, unloading and moving materials for general vineyard labor. Directing forklift through the field, and movement to a new location. Employee must conduct daily maintenance check prior to operating forklift. Required basic knowledge of driving a forklift, must pass a forklift safety training and demonstrate ability to operate forklift in a safe manner.

Workers may occasionally and/or sporadically perform duties associated with and directly related to the primary duties such as cleaning up field before during and after harvest, picking up trash, discarding cartons and assisting as safety monitor when equipment is turning in the field to begin a new pass.

Special Requirements

Must have 1-month work experience as a tractor driver including vineyard work. Specific requirements include lifting to 50 pounds frequently and able to use hand tools. Must be able to work under conditions where skin and clothing become heavily soiled with mud, water, grease, etc. Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, including rain, cold, high winds, etc. Work involves frequent bending and working in bent or stooped positions. Must be able to walk and stand up extensively. No smoking, alcohol, firearms in field or housing.
