Job description
Manual itinerant work hand planting tree seedlings to reforest and maintain timberlands. Plant tree seedlings in specified pattern using a shovel, mattock, planting hoe, or dibble. Transport trees in a tree bag. Dig holes at pre-determined intervals and insert seedling. Tamp soil around plant with foot and planting tool. Select optimum planting location to meet spacing, soil, and shade requirements. Bare soil. These jobs involve propagating, protecting, and managing forest tracts.
Special Requirements
No education or experience required. Requires physical stamina. Extensive walking over rough terrain. Work is outdoors in extreme temperatures and adverse weather. Must lift and carry 50 lbs. Work schedule and locations dependent on weather conditions. Production standard of 2000 trees correctly planted per 8 hour day after one week of on the job training. Overnight travel is required. Saturday work required, when necessary. Employer may offer more than the stated work hours depending on weather, business needs, and other conditions. Extreme heat, cold, rain, or drought may affect exact working hours.
