Job description
Manual itinerant work mechanically planting tree seedlings to reforest and maintain timberlands. Use equipment in planting trees on site preapred forestland. Operate open cab tractors and attached mechanical tree planter to plant pine seedlings on prepared beds on cleared timberlands. Lubricate equipment, fuel equipment, adjust equipment, and make emergency repairs to equipment. Conduct safety checks pre-operation, keeping job site clean, handplanting skips, assisting site foreman with any task when asked. Workers who hold or obtain a MSPA certificate with driving authorization may transport workers, count and check, and be offered additional work hours. The standard work schedule is from 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM until 1:30 PM, Saturday.
Special Requirements
Requires three months of previous experience in mechanical tree planting. Must be 18 years or older. Requires extreme physical stamina. Extensive walking, driving tractor, and riding planter over stumps and extremely rough terrain. Work is in adverse weather conditions including rain and cold temperatures. Must lift/carry 50 lbs., when necessary. Saturday and Sunday work required, when necessary. Post-hire random and post-accident drug testing required of foreign and domestic workers. Employer may offer more than the stated work hours depending on weather, business needs, and other conditions. Extreme heat, cold, rain, or drought may affect exact working hours.
