Job description
We primarily grow and harvest sod, however, we also cultivate row crops and lease fields to local farmers. Our sod acreage spans approximately 2,000 acres. Currently, we are seeking carpenters, construction workers, and fence installers to support various projects across our farm. These include assembling and fastening materials to make frameworks or props using hand tools and fasteners such as wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue. Other duties involve digging or directing digging of post holes and setting poles to support structures, shaping or cutting materials to specified measurements using hand tools, machines, or power saws, and verifying the trueness of structures with tools like plumb bobs and levels. Responsibilities also include selecting and ordering lumber or other required materials, installing structures or fixtures such as windows, frames, flooring, trim, or hardware using carpenters' hand or power tools, and anchoring and bracing forms and other structures in place using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, wedges, and timbers. Aligning posts by lines or sighting and verifying the vertical alignment of posts using plumb bobs or spirit levels is crucial, as is assembling gates and fastening them into position using hand tools, attaching fence rail supports to posts with hammers and pliers, and attaching rails or tension wire along bottoms of posts to form fencing frames. Additionally, constructing and repairing barriers, retaining walls, trellises, and other types of fences, walls, and gates are part of the duties, along with digging postholes using spades, posthole diggers, or power-driven augers, nailing top and bottom rails to fence posts or inserting them in slots on posts, and setting metal or wooden posts in upright positions in postholes.
Special Requirements
Job requires extensive walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, repetitive movements, frequent stooping and exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures. Employer will conduct post-hire drug tests at no cost to the employee to enforce a drug free workplace policy. Failing a drug test will result in termination. Employer will conduct post-hire criminal background checks at no cost to the employee and will not employ anyone with a felony/theft criminal background as required by the workplace safety policy and company HR hiring practices as allowed by law. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Requires 3 months experience.
