Job description

• Record the numbers and types of harvested product.
• Monitor workers to ensure that safety and food safety regulations are followed, warning or disciplining those who violate safety and food safety regulations.
• Observe employees for signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior, notifying managers.
• Observe product for food safety and quality.
• Train workers in cutting, packing of product and use of equipment.
• Communicate with managers on plans and procedures.
• Schedule work crews, equipment, or transportation work locations.
• Drive or operate harvest machinery, such as trucks, tractors, or self-propelled harvesters.
• Read shipper orders to determine required activities.
• Inspect harvest fields to ensure safety and food safety regulations are being met.
• Confer with managers to determine production requirements, conditions of equipment and supplies, and work schedules.
• Monitor operations to identify and solve problems, improve work methods, and ensure compliance with safety, company, and government regulations.
• Plan work schedules according to shippers orders.

The 3 supervisors will not be working with crops, rather they will be monitoring workers who will be harvesting iceberg lettuce, romaine lettuce, broccoli, green leaf lettuce, and butter lettuce.

Special Requirements

One month of ag supervisory experience. Specific requirements include lifting up to 50-55 pounds frequently and able to use hand tools, including cutting knives. Must be able to work under conditions where skin and clothing become heavily soiled with mud, water, grease, etc. Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, including rain, cold, high winds, etc. Work involves frequent bending and working in bent or stooped positions. Must be able to walk and stand up extensively. No smoking, alcohol, firearms in the field or residential housing.

Work is performed in open fields and may involve exposure to mud, dust, wind, heat, cold, and other natural elements. Temperatures can range from 30 degrees Fahrenheit to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the period of employment. Workers should come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described.
