Job description

All seasonal requirements for the growing, culturing and harvesting of different varieties of Christmas trees according to established company procedures taking into account instructions based on market and operational demands.
Land preparation includes picking up sticks and rocks. Planting of seedlings is done using shovels. Weed control is done by applying herbicides using back pack sprayers. Pruning of trees is done using knives and pruning shears. Pruning may be done from the ground or from ladders. Trees are trained using sticks and ties.
Harvest requires the packing of trees out of the fields, shaking the trees to remove dead needles using shaker, baling the trees using baling equipment, transport of trees on trailers and the loading of trees into trucks. Packing out trees may include hooking/unhooking trees in slings. Workers must exercise care to avoid damage to trees and equipment. Other farm responsibilities include area clean-up and road maintenance.
Use of ladders up to 10 feet in height is required for blossom thinning, pruning, training, and thinning. Workers must possess proficiency in handling ladders, climbing and working on ladders safely. Workers will be expected to use all equipment in a safe and prudent manner to avoid injury. Workers must not lean ladders into trees, lean off to one side of the ladder, or stand on the last two steps of the ladder. Workers must not climb trees and should use a ladder. If a Worker is unsure of how to use a ladder safely, he or she must notify a crew leader or supervisor.
Workers must have the ability to prune trees. Workers must have the ability to operate a backpack sprayer. Workers must have the ability to recognize safety signs, pesticide warning/re-entry and other essential postings. Workers must have the ability to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Workers must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Workers must be able to see all colors accurately in order to perform color-specific select picking. Workers must have the ability to recognize product quality and make necessary adjustments if they are not producing a quality product.
The job requires regular standing and walking. Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Workers are frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and climb or balance. The Worker is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Workers must possess the requisite physical strength and endurance to repeat the above listed processes throughout the workday, at a sustained and vigorous pace and make bona fide efforts to work efficiently and consistently. Employer will provide training and/or allow 2 workdays (12 hours) of work for Workers to meet the established job requirements.
Workers will be required to attend an orientation on workplace rules, policies and safety information prior to beginning work on or after the date of need. Workers will be paid for the time in which they attend the orientation at the AEWR rate of $19.25 per hour. Attendance at monthly safety meetings is required. Must be able to perform all duties within this job description in what can be considered a safe manner, adhering to all established Bear Canyon Tree Farm LLC safety policies, practices and procedures. Must have ability to communicate effectively and courteously with supervisors and coworkers.
Must wear all required and assigned personal protective equipment at all times when required to do so.
Work is performed outdoors, exposed to various elements. Allergies or sensitivities to dust, ragweed, goldenrod, bees, insect spray, related chemicals, etc. may affect workers' ability to perform the job. Workers should be physically able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. Work is done for long periods of time. *See Addendum C for more info
