Job description
We have a cow/calf operation with a herd of over 750 head of cows. The ranch needs seasonal labor from December to the end of March each year to assist with monitoring, feeding, watering, and helping cows deliver their calves in the calving paddocks and corrals near the barns. During this time, workers are needed to check the herd multiple times per day to ensure they are fed and have access to water, assist cows with calving as needed, identify, and treat sick animals or haul them to a veterinarian, document and tag new calves, log deaths, ensure the animals are in the correct locations, as necessary. Employees must be available during the busy calving season to perform these duties, which include assisting cows having trouble calving, feeding the herd using a farm truck, maintaining fences and corrals, documenting, and tagging new calves, logging deaths, identifying, and treating or isolating sick cows and calves, and hauling them to the veterinarian as needed. At the end of the season help is no longer needed as calves are sold and cows will be sent off to summer pasture. Employer may provide pay increases for performance, longevity and/or experience at employer’s discretion. Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.
Special Requirements
Job requires extensive walking, pushing, pulling, repetitive movements, frequent stooping and exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures. Employer will conduct post-hire drug tests at no cost to the employee to enforce a drug free workplace policy. Failing a drug test will result in termination. Job requires a regular drivers license. Requires 3 months experience.
