Job description
Feed and care for cows, calves and bulls; operate a mixer wagon, Chop hay for use in feed; open frozen water fountains several times a day; bed and run skid steer or tractor with bale shredder and feed wagon. Load hay and grain into feed wagon, hydraulic chute, skid steer, brand and weigh on a digital scale, hoof trimming chute & stock trailer; clean and maintain stalls; prepare & pen cattle for sales; detect disease, sickness & problems with calves/mothers; recognize & treat various sicknesses; assist in vaccinating, medicating, AI, birthing calves, prolapses, abscesses, scouring calves & posting deceased animals; maintain breeding, birth & weaning records. Calve out cows, keeping pairs together; milk out fresh cows and bottle feed; be knowledgeable and alert to development of calves; stock pile/haul out manure, snow & ice removal; maintain protective snow barriers/windbreaks; maintain and repair cattle-related equipment/buildings. Manage gates and fences. Haul cattle to pasture using a stock trailer. Drive pick-up truck to town for cattle supplies on occasion.
Special Requirements
Minimum of 3 months of experience is required. Must be able to obtain a driver's license within 30 days of hire. Employer requires drug screen post hire at employers expense due to the liability of operating equipment. Failure to pass drug screen will result in termination of employment. Lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds. The worker will be exposed to extreme temperatures. Extensive pushing and pulling is required. Extensive sitting is required. Extensive walking is required. Frequent stooping is required. Repetitive movements is required. Wage rate may increase with verifiable experience. Employer may reward exceptional work with monetary or other benefits in addition to those listed here in his sole discretion.
