Job description
Operating tractor and/or feed wagon to feed livestock daily. Maintaining feeding equipment. Maintaining water sources/tanks. Checking water tanks twice daily to break ice and open up. Patrol winter grazing lands on horseback or with all-terrain vehicles. Assist during spring/winter storms (snow/ice/rain). Moving mother cows to protection if storm is predicted. Setting up wind break fences and stationary bale feeders. Bedding down all areas mother cows occupy with straw. Monitoring cattle and newborn calves throughout the day and night during storm. Removing snow to be able to feed and water livestock. Monitoring water tanks and lines to prevent freezing pipes and low water supplyMoving cattle from winter grazing pasture to calving pastures or other pens/enclosures. Preparing barns, pens, and pastures for calving. Maintaining and fixing winter grazing and calving pasture fences. Bedding down barns with straw. Cleaning barns daily during calving. Checking on mother cows and newborn calves at minimum of three times daily. Assisting birthing mother cows and newborn calves as needed. Sorting mother cows that have birthed from those that have not yet calved. Branding and vaccinating all newborn calves.
Special Requirements
Minimum of 1 months of experience is required. Must be able to obtain a driver's license within 30 days of hire. Lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds. The worker will be exposed to extreme temperatures. Extensive pushing and pulling is required. Extensive sitting is required. Extensive walking is required. Frequent stooping is required. Repetitive movements is required. Wage rate may increase with verifiable experience. Employer may reward exceptional work with monetary or other benefits in addition to those listed here in his sole discretion.
