Job description
We have cattle that will need to be cared for through the winter calving season, from December to the beginning of May. While confined for calving, they will be on cornstalks for feeding and moved to a dry lot at the farm base. There they will be confined for calving until I send them to pasture. We only need care for cattle while confined for this period. Duties include tending to the cattle, feeding cornstalks, checking, and filling water, checking the cows, and doctoring when needed. In February, the cows will need to be hauled to a dry lot where they will need hay daily. When they start calving, cows will need to be checked a minimum of 3 times a day. Employees duties will include assisting with pulling a calf, birthing and deliveries, doctoring babies, and tagging calves after birth, and hauling water to the confinement corrals, breaking ice to make sure they have access to water, and supplementing minerals in their feed. In March, they will get branded and get another vaccination before they are sent to summer pasture in May. Once on pasture, cattle graze for feeding and no care is needed until the next calving season. Employees will need to haul and spread the manure from the confinement area to clean out the pens. Employees will complete general farm duties as assigned.
