Job description
Crops: Evergreen Seedlings, Hardwood Seedlings
General overview of work task include: Ag equipment operator, Lifting/Packing/Loading Pine Trees, Lifting/Packing/Loading Hardwood Trees, Cleaning of vehicles / tractors / equipment / buildings / storage areas using cleaning equipment / sprayers / wash buckets / cleaning chemicals. Moving irrigation pipe / risers / valves to and from field to storage piles. Assisting with irrigation leak repair – help with moving dirt and supplies as needed. Repairing fence if and as needed – barbed wire and hog panel fencing on t-posts. Inventory of seedling crops using wire racks to count seedlings and document on paper. Cleaning / removing limbs, leaves, debris from yards, grounds, cemetery located on site, and other areas on site as needed. Mowing / weed eating on site as needed. Going through each field to clean up left over seedlings / trash as needed. Weeding of crops / field areas by hand using buckets – walking up and down beds and pulling weeds as needed. Mowing / weed eating around fields, irrigation lines, fences, buildings, grounds. Installing bird netting on select hardwoods. Installing rebar in the field. String install on rebar. Laying out and stitching bird netting. Regular checks of installed netting and repairs as needed. Assisting with planting hardwoods – help with seed bags on back of planter – keeping hopper full of seed and assisting with seed transport from cold storage to field. Cleaning of equipment, buildings, grounds, fields, as needed. Seedling inventory. Bush hogging using PTO powered mower and tractor. Assisting with various cultural practices as needed. Spraying pesticides using backpack type sprayers. Assisting with discing, chisel plowing, cultivation activities in fields as needed. Assisting with undercutting / lateral pruning crop as needed. Repairing fences. Removing / installing irrigation pipe, valves, risers, main lines as needed. Assisting with irrigation leak repair duties as needed. Cutting / removing fallen tree limbs / debris from facility locations.
In addition to the specific quality and speed standards training that will be provided post-hire, workers must demonstrate bona fide effort to meet the employer’s work standards. Bona fide, in this context, means made with earnest intent and keeping with fellow workers.
Farm, Field, and Shed Sanitation: All workers will be responsible for picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping floors and other farm, and shed sanitation duties. The farm owner/supervisor or a designated employee will provide specific instructions and close supervision. Workers will be expected to perform their duties in a timely and proficient manner and will have close supervision to ensure adherence to instruction. Work will be closely monitored and reviewed for quality.
Special Requirements
Workers must have at least 3 months experience as a farmworker. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing at no cost to the employee. All drug testing will occur after the worker begins his or her employment and is not a part of the interview process. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
