Job description
Duties may include: Fertilizing and spraying the orchards 3 times within the season with an orchard spray rig. Flood irrigation every 14-20 days depending on weather; specific to pecan orchard. Maintain the integrity of cement ditches as well as the irrigation wells. Ground Prep for pecan orchard will involve floating the pecan orchards, and sweeping leaves into rows using sweeper machines. Worker will assist in trimming limbs and be responsible for picking up any debris such as trash and tree limbs. Worker will use tractor and shredding implement to shred leaves. Worker will then need to use the pecan tree shaker to shake the pecan trees; worker will be expected to handle tress with great care, as too much shaking can cause trees to break. Worker will then need to sweep pecans back into a row where the pecans will be picked up by machine. Pecans are then loaded into a jack rabbit truck that connects to machinery for transportation. Worker will need to assist in removing any debris as well as picking up loose pecans while they are in holding bin and being moved via conveyor belt.
Worker will be responsible for maintaining and cleaning work areas, pecan orchard clean up, weed prevention, and pecan orchard repairs such as fixing cement cracks, and repairing orchards gates if need be, & other related Pecan Orchard Worker activities as per SOC/OES 45-2092 (onetonline.org). Possible weekend/holiday work.
Special Requirements
Must be 18 years of age. Worker has 3 days from date of hire to show proof of legal authorization to work in the United States. Drug/alcohol/tobacco free work zone. Static strength; exert max muscle force to lift, push, pull, unload, carry objects up to 55lbs; may climb, walk, stand, reach, balance, sit, stoop, bend, squat, wash, clean: equip, grounds, area. All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform work described and must be available for the entire period specified and work throughout all areas of intended employment. Variable weather conditions may apply. Worker must be able to obtain a valid US Driver's License within 2 weeks of reporting to work.
