Job description

Farm produces livestock, beef cattle, hay, straw, and alfalfa. Performs any of the following tasks to attend to livestock: order feed, retrieve feed from storage, prepare feed and mix in additives, deliver feed to livestock facilities, give feed to livestock, check feed equipment, clean/maintain feed equipment, place mineral blocks, inspect water sources/equipment, break/melt/remove ice from water, clean/maintain/repair water systems, give water to livestock, inspect livestock for illnesses and injuries, separate sick livestock from the herd, move sick/injured livestock to treatment area, administer medications/injury care, administer vaccinations, shovel away snow by hand, prepare snow removal equipment, clear snow from facilities, monitor livestock temperatures, confine livestock to stalls, herd livestock, weigh livestock, inspect pens/stables, collect and remove manure, clean/disinfect pens/stables, remove dead livestock, prepare dead livestock for burial, bury dead livestock, remove old bedding, prepare new bedding, distribute bedding, receive new livestock, vaccinate/treat new livestock, clean the receiving area, maintain livestock equipment, maintain breeding, feeding, and cost records, prepare livestock for market, prepare documentation to sell livestock. Drive to town to pick up cattle supplies. Handling hay/straw/alfalfa bales. Workers may be required to operate tractors, trucks and other farm equipment during field operations as an incidental activity in the production of crops. Workers will be instructed in safety and operation of small tractors and trailers before operating. Tractors should be driven in a manner to protect operator, other workers, products, livestock, crops and equipment. Repeated failure to obey safety requirements and operating instructions may result in termination. In addition, workers may be required to perform variable tasks relating to crop production such as the following: irrigation, ditching, hoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, weeding, repairing/maintaining fences and farm structures and other tasks related to general farming.

Special Requirements

One month prior experience working on a livestock farm required. Workers must have a valid, insurable drivers license or be eligible to apply for same at no cost to the worker. Employer reserves the right to conduct employer-paid post-accident or upon suspicion drug testing. Any employee who declines to take or fails a drug test will be immediately terminated. No high school education required.
