Job description
The General Ranch Hand position will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of commercial and registered Black Angus Cattle. Duties will include the following: check physical characteristics and observe general condition of livestock, apply the appropriate care; examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain to determine delivery time, night calving and assisting in delivery of calves, apply or administer medications/vaccines, precondition calves, treat foot rot; mix feed/additives and feed/water livestock; place mineral blocks; drive equipment to haul/distribute feed/water when not at pasture; load/unload trucks and semi-trucks; herd livestock; confine livestock in stalls; clean/disinfect livestock corrals/stalls/sheds; dock, castrate, brand, clip/tag and clamp livestock; maintain records on animals; hoist/stack bales of hay onto wagon/truck; occasionally ride and perform duties on horseback. General farm work will include making minor mechanical adjustments/repairs on farm machinery; irrigate hay crops; mix chemical solutions (Roundup & Banvel) and spray/apply to crops; repair/replace fencing and farm structures; perform general cleanup of farm acreage; drive, load/unload trucks. Most duties are performed out of doors, and entail exposure to heat, cold, dust, rain and other environmental conditions common in fields. Worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
