Job description
Seasonal Broccoli Harvester:
Worker Will perform various duties associated with the growing and processing of broccoli. Duties may include movement and set up of irrigation equipment around the designated fields.
Workers will be required to cut broccoli with a special knife (stainless steel 7.25-inchblade) with plastic handle. Foreman will instruct workers daily on the size of the product that must be cut. Worker will cut vegetable away from the root, wrap product with plastic wrap and/or box the product according to foreman specifications. Worker shall have the ability to build carton boxes and stack them in specified areas. Worker will be required to move empty pallets of 60 lbs. in weight. Worker will be required to walk and stand from 8 to 12 hours a day, repetitive hand and wrist movement, reach objects and stretch their body, constant bending over, walking, or sitting, and the ability to lift 60 lbs. Worker will be walking in different soil conditions in the field, using proper tools, which will be provided by employer at no cost to the worker, and will work with an average 25 other workers per unit.
Work environment noise is generally moderate to loud. Moderate to cold climate, should be prepared to dress appropriately. At times when work is slow, worker will be asked to clean around his area and discard any product that has fallen off the conveyor and will no longer be used for consumption. At times you might be asked to help your coworkers. Worker must follow all rules of operation and safety regulations. All regulations to be posted on bulletin board for workers. At end of day/shift, worker will be asked to turn in all equipment to the foreman and clean his/her area of work for the day. Workers will be asked to remain in position until the last box is off the conveyor belt and all boxes are stacked appropriately. Throughout the workday worker is required to communicate and listen to foreman, and coworkers in order maintain a steady workflow.
CAULIFLOWER HARVEST
CUTTER: Cut cauliflower with a special knife designed for this product. cut the product properly and as directed by the supervisor.
BAGGER AND PACKER: Bag, seal, and pack the product correctly as directed by the supervisor. Identify the required measurements for packing each box, such as sizes 9's, 12's, and 16's.
BOX LABORER: Assemble and organize boxes with the ability to work at a height of 7 feet, climbing and descending ladders during each work break. organize and assemble empty cardboard boxes and place them in a specific location.
LOADER: Lift boxes weighing 25 to 30 lbs. from the conveyor belt and place them on a pallet. They will be stacked in 14 layers of 4 boxes per layer on each pallet (56 boxes per pallet). Lift empty pallets weighing 60 lbs.
GENERAL LABORER: Walking different types of terrain within the field, using tools to cut the product with care, and working with a group of approximately 25 people per crew in various positions. At the end of shift, return your work tools to supervisor and leave your work area clean. Loaders must remain in their position until the last box on the conveyor belt is properly stacked. May be required to assist your colleagues when necessary or perform other tasks assigned by your supervisor.
Special Requirements
1 month of experience with broccoli and cauliflower. Specific requirements include lifting up to 60 pounds frequently and able to use hand tools, including cutting knives. Must be able to work under conditions where skin and clothing become heavily soiled with mud, water, grease, etc. Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, including rain, cold, high winds, etc. Work involves frequent bending and working in bent or stooped positions. Must be able to walk and stand up extensively. No smoking, alcohol, firearms in the field or residential housing.
Work is performed in open fields and may involve exposure to mud, dust, wind, heat, cold, and other natural elements. Temperatures can range from 30 degrees Fahrenheit to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the period of employment. Workers should come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described.
