Job description
Work begins at assigned time usually shortly after daylight. Work is performed during light rain, snow, and in high humidity and in temperatures ranging from 100 (+) degrees to 15 degrees F outdoors. Work will also be performed in a warehouse type environment where it is frequently dusty, noisy and objectionable odors are present. Work will be done in areas that are not sheltered or climate controlled and are often exposed to heat, cold and inclement weather. Workers will work on their feet in bent, stooped, and crouched positions for long periods of time. Workers will make fast, simple, repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists. Workers must be flexible and able to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs. Workers will use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects, such as potted plants. Workers will frequently lift produce ranging in weight up to 50 pounds and push/pull racks on wheels with force of 50-100 lbs. Skin and clothing are frequently wet and soiled. Workers will supply their own work clothes. All tasks in this Job Description constitute one (1) job; the employer may assign workers to different tasks on any day or to multiple tasks during the same day in the sole judgment of the employer. Workers may be required to perform work on the farm that is incidental to farming the crops listed in the application, such as performing water /irrigate plants or apply fetilizers/pesticides/fungicides using a hose / wash maintain nursery seedings and plants. hanging baskets, fill label/trays. Prepare plants for digging by planting or wrapping, bedding and potting plants, weeding or hoeing, cleaning and repairing farm buildings, pallets, seed beds, racks, grounds, mowing, weed eating, operate tractor/farm equipment, sprayers, incidental crop set up, move equipment, gardening, weeding and shrubbing, etc. Workers will complete greenhouse maintenance and complete minor repairs. Workers will remove trash and debris and complete landscape maintenance. This is a very demanding and competitive business in which quality specifications must be rigorously adhered to. The employer retains the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or insubordinate worker who is physically able to but does not demonstrate the willingness to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product. Workers may be required to work in teams to accomplish a certain task. When engaged in team work activities workers must coordinate with other team members to accomplish the task.
Farm, Field, and Shed Sanitation: All workers will be responsible for cleaning bathrooms, sweeping floors and other farm and shed sanitation duties and perform miscellaneous job related duties as assigned. The greenhouse owner/supervisor or a designated employee will provide specific instructions and close supervision. Workers will be expected to perform their duties in a timely and proficient manner and will be supervised to insure adherence to instruction. Work will be closely monitored for quality. Workers will be expected to work diligently.
Equipment Operation: Worker may attach farm implements such as conveyor belts, seeding/transplanting machines, bale buster, pallet jacks, forklifts, sprayers, and harvesters to tractors, using bolts and other greenhouse equipment including hand tools. Worker may operate ag production tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, implements and self-propelled machinery. Worker may be asked to operate fork lift. Worker may manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery. Workers may not operate heavy trucks or motor vehicles.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers.
This job requires a minimum of 3 months of agricultural experience working in a greenhouse handling manual tasks associated with production of flowers, nursery stock and vegetables. Workers must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order with accuracy and efficiency with or without reasonable accommodation. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 50lbs. Employer-paid post-hire drug testing required upon reasonable suspicion of use.
