Job description
Workers will examine and sort fleece according to quality. Will estimate the weight of the fleece after processing. Separate locks of fleece and examine fibers for length, elasticity and color to determine quality. Examine fleece to determine presence of manure, straw, stains and moisture. Place fleece in containers and mark wool grade on containers according to government standards and quality. Will also set up grading tables and fleece containers prior to shearing and pack up grading tables and fleece containers upon completion of shearing so everything is ready to move to the next job site. Fleeces must be continually moving away from shearers so they can be kept separate, as they must be graded and examined individually. It is important that the wool graders and the sheep shearers work in cooperation with each other for the proper handling of the wool.
