Job description

The job duties involve skilled farm labor for the purpose of planting, growing, and harvesting potatoes and sweet potatoes. Duties include:
Preparing the potato seed for planting. Unload, grade, size, cut, sort, treat, and suberize potato seed prior to planting. Clean potato seed storage areas. Move seed to proper areas, load seed into transport equipment. Monitor seed while being planted. Operating equipment to prepare the land to plant potatoes and sweet potatoes.
Perform activities necessary to growing the crop, including irrigation, tillage, field monitoring.
Other general agriculture duties include monitoring fields for weeds, diseases, insects. Digging potatoes by hand for sampling and sizing. Taking leaf and dirt samples.
During harvest, responsibilities include operating the potato piler, bobcat, potato harvester, wind rower and tractors.
Equipment operation includes operating tractors, forklifts, conveyers, seed cutters, planters, harvesters, disks, chisel plows, diking soil, rolling rows, forming crop rows, transplanting slips, and using 8 row equipment.
Operating technology on the equipment, including GPS guidance systems / autosteer, Greenstar, planter monitors, harvest monitors. Bringing fertilizer tanks to the field. Setting up and operating irrigation pumps and irrigation. Must possess a valid drivers license in order to drive a vehicle to check irrigation.
Perform basic maintenance and repairs on all on farm equipment.
Follow all applicable food safety standards, including GlobalGAP.
Participate in all health and safety trainings and perform job in a safe manner.
Perform farm site cleanup.
Participate in Know Your Rights and Resources (KYRR) training.
Perform general farm work as needed.
All tools will be provided at no cost.
Full time supervision is provided.
Workers must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time and work in extreme temperatures. Lifting objects up to 50 lbs., bending, twisting, and stooping regularly will be required.

Special Requirements

Hours of work will be offered above 40 hours per week, but is on a voluntary basis. Work schedules may fluctuate relative to weather conditions, field conditions, and seed availability. Work may be required on weekends and holidays. Work hours may fluctuate due to
production schedules.
Workers will be required to obtain or hold the correct type of drivers license as required by state and Federal laws in order to drive a light passenger vehicle (i.e. pickup) to and from fields to perform work.
Workers must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and work in extreme temperatures, including work outside, will be required for at least 6 hours a day in all kinds of weather, including direct sunlight, windy/dusty conditions, and rain.
Extensive walking will be required when in the fields to get to and from irrigation units and equipment.
