Job description
Workers must follow directions from the supervisor in charge. Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following: applying fertilizers, transplanting, thinning or pruning plants/flowers and applying pesticides. Manually plant, cultivate and harvest horticultural specialties. May be required to do some incidental record keeping. May be required to do spot picking and/or clipping, include pulling weeds by hand. Use hand tools such as: shovels, trawls, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears and knives. Pick, wash, sort and grade assorted vegetable plants. Water plants and replace hoses in greenhouses. May move flower and/or vegetable containers from greenhouse to greenhouse. Place cut flowers in water and prepare for shipment. Pick up containers of flowers and/or vegetables and load them on shipping carts. Prepare or ready baskets of flowers for sale. May drive forklift to load and unload, plants and produce, on truck to fill orders. Sweep and clean out delivery trucks for next day’s deliveries. Clean and organize greenhouses and utility sheds after use. Workers will help do minor repairs, cover, and maintain existing fences, farm buildings and greenhouses.
Special Requirements
Must be 18 years or older. Three (3) months experience required in Greenhouse and manually planting, cultivating, pruning, cutting, and harvesting. Employer may conduct a Criminal Background Check on all employees at employers expense. All tools, supplies and equipment will be provided at no cost to the worker. There is a lifting requirement of 5-50 lbs. Workers may stand in one place for long periods of time and must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach, and lift while performing their required job duties. Workers should come prepared wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the environmental and working conditions described. Cell phone can only be used during breaks, emergencies, and communicated with supervisor when needed.
