Job description

Ag Mechanic: The workers in this job order will be handling agricultural equipment and wine grapes.

As a critical part of the food chain, the agricultural equipment mechanic job duties are seasonal in that the workers are only needed to repair farm equipment (vehicles, harvesting machines, etc.) during the citrus harvest season. Work Environment: Primarily in a shop environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces or terrain. Essential Functions and Basic Duties: Following the supervisors instructions, the mechanics will diagnose, repair and overhaul engines, transmissions, components, electrical and fuel systems, etc. for various powered and rolling equipment such as cars, trucks, buses, farm equipment and generators. The workers will maintain appropriate service and repair records. May infrequently and sporadically engage in equipment repair in fields.

Truck Driver:
Truck drivers must be physically and mentally healthy. Each worker is expected to drive vehicles efficiently and safely through all types of roadways. Workers must be able to operate tractors, trailers, semi-trailers, and have adequate knowledge to make minor adjustments or repairs to these vehicles. Must have a CDL or equivalent license, pass a required driver’s license background check, and mandated drug and alcohol test. Truck drivers must have and maintain a suitable driving record and be ensured by the employer’s insurance company.

Truck drivers will primarily haul equipment between the employer’s worksites. The driving and hauling will consist driving the semi-tractor to the worksites contained in this application, attaching the tractor trailer and driving the tractor trailer. In addition, truck drivers may be required to place empty trailers in the fields/groves and/or relocate trailers throughout the designated worksites contained herein. Truck drivers may occasionally haul harvested crops from fields/groves to local wineries located within 2 to 3 miles of the employer’s fields.

Truck drivers must accurately and efficiently identify the geographic location of the assigned pickup and delivery sites by using aids such as verbal direction, maps, and other aids.
Follow respect and abide by all local, state, and federal regulations and traffic laws pertaining to functions of driver of the company's vehicles.

Operate the vehicle in a manner consistent with responsible practices to avoid abuse, theft, neglect or disrespect of the equipment. This includes keeping the inside and outside of the vehicle clean and verifying that the vehicle is serviced.

Truck drivers must hook up airlines to the trailers, air up the brakes, and lock down before getting under each trailer.

It is mandatory for drivers and passengers to use seat belts and shoulder harness. Passengers are not allowed in the vehicles without authorization.

The use of vehicle is restricted to authorized driver(s) only.

Truck drivers must pay attention to and practice safe driving techniques and adherence to existing safety requirements.

Accurate complete and timely reporting to management of all moving violations, vehicle thefts and/or accidents is required of drivers.

Special Requirements

Must have 1 months of work experience as an agricultural mechanic/truck driver. Workers must be able to lift 50 lbs frequently. No smoking, drinking, or illegal weapons or controlled substances in the fields or in housing. Cannot be color blind due to the need to distinguish colors of crops. Able to stoop, bend, and work in cold and wet conditions. Able to use tools such as pruning shears, grape knives, hand saws, and shovels. Safety use and training is provided by the employer . Must have a CDL or equivalent license, pass a required drivers license background check, and mandated drug and alcohol test. Truck drivers must have and maintain a suitable driving record and be ensured by the employers insurance company.
Work is performed outdoors in open fields and can involve exposure to sun, wind, mud, dust, heat, cold and other elements of the normal field environment. Temperatures can range from 20 degrees F to over 100 degrees F during the period of employment.
