Job description

Crew Leaders ( Olives and Vegetables) Under the direction of the First-Line Supervisor:
• Assign duties, such as cultivation, irrigation, or harvesting of crops or plants, product grading, or equipment maintenance.
• Train workers in techniques such as planting, harvesting, weeding (long handled hoe or shovel), or insect identification and in the use of safety measures.
• Confer with managers to evaluate weather or soil conditions, to develop plans or procedures, or to discuss issues such as changes in fertilizers, or cultivating techniques.
• Inspect crops, fields, or plant stock to determine conditions and need for cultivating, weeding, or harvesting.
• Move water and shade
• Review employees' work to evaluate quality and quantity.
• Recording time sheets, record keeping and data collection.
• Communicate worker performance to Supervisors and Management.

Workers will also perform olive pruning, olive suckering and erosion control by hand. Workers will also perform weed control using mechanical string trimmer for weed abatement and or a shovel (long handled). Workers will also perform crop thinning by hand. Workers will be responsible for harvesting olives by hand. All hand-related harvesting will be in accordance with California law. Workers will also perform fence repair, vegetable planting/harvesting and ground prepping. Workers will use woodchipper and chainsaw in performing agricultural duties.

Tractor mowing, spraying, and small repair work: Set up and operate a tractor with mowing, , or spraying implements. Also, complete small repair work on tractor as needed.
ATV Irrigation: Use an ATV to turn on and off irrigation valves and fix leaks to the irrigation system.
Vegetable garden Maintenance: Ranch clean up

Meals: Picking up meals from food truck

Drivers:

VAN DRIVER SPECIFICATIONS:

1. Employee may drive vans (not busses) over the road.

2. Employee picks up workers from different housing sites/pick up points and takes them to an assigned work site and at the end of the workday takes them back to the housing site/pick up point. Employee will also work in the assigned crew

3. In order to drive a van, employees must possess valid drivers’ license (state issued) and must be able to pass Class B Physical exam and register as an FLCE driver. ( Be verified and approved in the clearing house system )

All employees in this position (H-2A as well as corresponding domestic workers), will be given the opportunity to obtain a driver’s license (DL) and register as an FLCE driver on a voluntary basis. The DL and FLCE Certificate are not a pre-hire job requirement. No job applicant will be denied an employment opportunity due to a lack of a DL or FLCE Certificate at the time of application and/or hiring. Further, no worker (H-2A or corresponding domestic worker) will be terminated for failure to obtain a DL or FLCE Certificate.

Special Requirements

One month harvest experience. Workers must be able to lift 50 lbs frequently. No smoking, drinking alcohol, or illegal weapons or controlled substances in the fields or in housing. Able to stoop, bend, and work in cold and wet conditions. Able to use tools such as pruning shears, grape knives, hand saws, weed eaters, hedgers, shovels. Safety use and training provided by employer. Workers must abide by Employer housing rules. Ability to communicate in English or Spanish is required for training and safety purposes. (i.e. Workers must listen to, understand and follow instructions of Employer crew leaders, supervisors and managers.)
