Job description
Manual planting, harvesting shrubs, ornamental plants, trees, flowers; spray, pull, load and unload plants, use hand tools (shovels, trowels, sprayer, hoes, pruning hooks, shears, etc.). Duties include tilling soil, mulching, transplanting, weeding, thinning, pruning, applying pesticides and fertilizer, grading, sorting and packing. Work in nursery facility. Irrigation and cultivation duties. Operation of farm equipment and minor repair and maintenance of farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment. Farm, field and shed sanitation duties. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, fertilizers, pesticides, insect sprays and related chemicals, etc., may affect workers ability to perform the job. Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms, legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, twisting, kneeling, and handling of materials repetitively for long periods of time. Work is done in all kinds of weather from extreme heat to cold and rain. Worker may be requested, but is not required, to work additional hours as business needs demand and depending upon the conditions in the fields, orchards, and maturity of crops. All tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the duties assigned are provided to the worker, without charge or deposit. Hours may fluctuate due to weather conditions or mechanical breakdowns but will not reduce the 3/4 guarantee over the life of the contract. Housing is provided at no cost for workers who cannot reasonably return to permanent residence at end of workday. Once hired, workers may be required to take a random drug test (at no cost to the worker), as part of fitness for duty and workers safety. Drug testing relates to safety assurance in a working environment. Testing positive or failure to comply with the random drug testing may result in immediate termination from employment. Possibility of work breakdown will not reduce workers guarantee over the life of the contract.
