Job description

Worker will perform a variety of duties related to breeding mares and cattle.
Duties will include the following: inspect, maintain, and repair equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences; mow and weed eat grass and weeds; perform general clean-up; remove soiled bedding and manure from livestock enclosures and replace with fresh bedding; clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps; maintain/repair fencing; operate motorized farm equipment such as tractors, ATVs, manure spreaders, truck and trailer, etc.; workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other workers; check physical characteristics, observe general condition of livestock, and apply the appropriate care; examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain; groom, clip, trim, or castrate animals, dock ears and tails, or shear coats to collect hair; spray livestock with disinfectants and insecticides, or dip or bathe animals; handle and care for breeding mares; monitor breeding mares’ health, breeding readiness, and signs of pregnancy; assist veterinarian during breeding process, including insemination of mares, pregnancy checks, ultrasounds, and emergency health situations; exercise and care for stallions to maintain conditioning and breeding readiness; care for foals; assist farrier; administer exercise regimens organized by veterinarians; assist with post-pregnancy treatment of mares and neonatal care of foals; confine livestock to stalls; herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures; move equipment or livestock from one location to another, manually or using trucks or carts; identify and catch horses in fields, affix halters and lead ropes, lead into barn and tie securely; monitor and maintain adequate feed and water levels; mix feed and additives, fill feed troughs with feed and water horses; drive trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals; maintain/clean and fill water troughs and buckets; load/unload/haul/store hay bales and feed supplies; place mineral blocks.
