Job description
Required to travel according to and be available to work through the entire established shearing itinerary. All job duties are closely and directly related to animal shearing activities.
Perform any combination of the following tasks to grade and sort newly shorn, raw fleeces: assist with setup and tear down of mobile shearing plant; examine and sort fleeces according to quality; help move sheep in and out of shearing areas; lift unprocessed fleece to estimate the weight of fleece after processing; mark wool grade on container according the government standard/s of quality; separate locks of fleece and examine fibers for length, diameter, elasticity, and color to determine quality of fleece; sort fleeces into containers according to quality.
Special Requirements
Required to: perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision, spend the majority of work days on the range, live and work singly or in small groups of workers in isolated areas for extended periods of time, work outdoors in all types of weather and may experience occasional exposure to hazards such as poisonous snakes, biting insects and extreme temperature, maintain and manage remote housing locations in a safe and responsible manner, handle animals using low stress handling methods.
