Job description
Using hand tools and equipment, workers will prune, thin, and trim cottonwood (grown for logging purposes) and fruit trees according to the supervisor's instruction, and cultivate soybeans. Additional duties include: Collect seeds; Sow seeds in germination trays; Take cuttings from mature trees; Root cuttings in propagation medium; Move seedlings to larger pots or field beds; Carefully handle root systems to avoid damage; Accurately label each plant with variety and planting date; Regular water and irrigation management; Apply fertilizers and nutrients as needed; Monitor for pests and diseases, implementing control measures; Weed around young trees; Prune to promote healthy growth and desired shape; Train trees to grow upright or along desired lines; Keep accurate records of tree types, quantities, and planting dates; Rotate stock to ensure proper plant health; Grade trees based on quality and size; Pot trees for customer purchase; Label and price trees for display; Maintain nursery equipment and tools; Clean work areas and greenhouse facilities. There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties and/or fields often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions.
Special Requirements
3 months of farming experience required. Due to the use of vehicles and heavy machinery, drug testing may be conducted post-hire at the employers expense and is not part of the interview process. All workers may be subject to mandatory testing if they have been involved in a reportable accident or upon reasonable suspicion that drug use is impacting job performance.
