Job description
The job specifications involve skilled farm labor for the purpose of preparing and performing duties for receiving potato seed for planting and planting the potato seed.
The potato seed needs to be unloaded, graded, sized, cut, treated, and suberized prior to planting. This process involves operating conveyers, unloaders, bobcats, forklifts, seed treatment machines and seed cutting
machines.
Other responsibilities include sorting, sizing and grading seed potatoes by hand, including sorting out green, rotten or other low quality seed potatoes as they pass on a conveyor. Cleaning potato storage bins. Applying
seed treatment to the potato seed. Notify supervisor of any potato quality issues. Use bobcat to unload seed potatoes or to move them around the farm. Find proper location for potatoes and use bobcat to move potatoes to
its designated areas.
Duties will include washing and disinfecting the potato warehouses where seed potatoes were stored. Preparing this area so that it is ready for harvest time operations. This includes conducting maintenance.
Other duties include performing general basic maintenance. General farm work is also included.
Full time supervision is provided and all tools are provided at no cost. Workers must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and work in extreme temperatures. Lifting objects up to 50 lbs., bending, twisting, and stooping regularly will be required.
Participate in required Know Your Rights and Responsibilities (KYRR) training
Participate in required health and safety training
Comply with all GlobalGAP practices
All tools will be provided at no cost
Special Requirements
3 months experience operating and performing maintenance on agriculture equipment, including potato planters and tractors. 3 months experience working with potatoes. Hours of work will be offered above 40 hours per week, but is on a voluntary basis. Work schedules may fluctuate relative to weather conditions, field conditions, and seed availability. Work may be required on weekends and holidays. Work hours may fluctuate due to
production schedules.
