Job description

Crops/Commodities:
Soybeans, rice, corn, cotton.
Plant, cultivate and harvest soybeans, rice, corn, and cotton by hand or machine. Till soil, weed fields, prepare land for planting, and load and unload harvested products. Load seed on farm equipment for planting. Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Operate farm vehicles and agricultural equipment to plow, harrow, plant, cultivate, and harvest crops. Apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other crop protectants. Apply fertilizers, plant growth chemicals, conditioners, and other plant related treatments at the correct times depending on plant type, growth, climate and crop conditions.

Build and maintain levees, put in spillways, rogue rice fields during flood. Walk fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops. Check rice fields daily for water levels. Drain excess water from fields. Receive rice crop for drying and storage at grain drying facility, dispose of spoiled grain from pit and elevator area and chop grass out of fields. Walk soybean fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops from wells. Rogue soybean and cornfields by walking through fields and removing undesirable off type soybean and corn varieties and weeds by hand or using a hoe, shovel or machete. Remove undesirable and excess growth such as tassels, suckers, and weeds using hand tools or by hand. Unload harvested crops into grain bins. Unload grain bins and load into trucks. Ensure hoppers are filled properly. Level grain in bins using shovel. Operate machinery to plant, harvest, and pack cotton. Put dropped cotton back into module using a pitch fork. Stack bales in field.

Participate in irrigation activities, including setting up and operating irrigation equipment, cleaning and maintaining irrigation ditches. Install levy gates, unroll levy gates, roll levy gates, shovel grain onto trucks, drain levy gates, carry irrigation pipe, and dig irrigation ditches. Perform end of season draining of fields with shovels. Clean work areas and maintain grounds. Clean in and around grain bins and grain pits. Mow and weedeat around workspaces and housing areas. Repair, clean, maintain, and service farm vehicles and agricultural equipment. Provide field preparation and field clean up including burning fields. Drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers on or off the farm. Assist with Good Agricultural Practices policies.

Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer's products and property. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job.

Special Requirements

Three months verifiable farmwork experience required. Work outside in extremely hot, cold or wet weather. Perform prolonged walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and repetitive movements. Must be 18 or older.
