Job description
Crew Leader Duties: Report directly to the Supervisor and manage seasonal workers during harvesting. Record crop-related information (pesticide use, yields, costs)and communicate crop progress to farm management. Oversee inventory and material orders, ensuring product quality and packing standards are met. Direct and monitor harvesting activities, assisting the foreman with pre-harvest preparations and audits.
General Information: No candidate will be excluded based on the absence of a driver's license or FLCE Certificate at the time of application or hiring. Employment will not be terminated due to failure to obtain these credentials. Compensation adheres to AEWR guidelines for all duties performed related to driving, administrative tasks, and fieldwork. Flexibility and Adaptability: Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons and adapt to changing weather conditions or urgent operational needs.
Attention to Detail: Precision in record-keeping, data analysis for crop yields, and reporting on daily operations is required to ensure optimal farm performance. Willingness to Travel Between Worksites: The position may require travel between different farm locations. Candidates must be willing to work in various locations as needed and adapt to different environments.
Job Duties: Work under this contract will consist harvesting various row crop vegetables such as peaches, almonds, cherries, and walnuts and irrigating field.
Workers may perform one or more of the following tasks, depending on the daily needs of the operation:
- Transplant field-grown shrubs and trees into pots and containers.
- Apply identification tags tofield and container-grown plants. - Weed, clean, cultivate, and prune field and container-grown plants
- Stake and tie plants to support proper growth and development.
- Remove suckers from trees -Haul and spread potting soils, fertilizers,and other materials using carts, scoops, or shovels.
- Propagate plants through cuttings and grafting using proper horticultural techniques.
- Learn and apply bare-root potting and citrus budding techniques.
-Use hand tools such as shears, pruners, blowers,trimmers, rakes, and shovels. - Assist with field drip irrigation tasks to water field and container plants.
- Remove and replace plastic from seasonal holding houses. - Load finished plants onto wagons, trucks, and racks for transportation. - Move trees from greenhouses to staging/loading areas.
-Prepare staging areas with necessary materials and clear them when no longer in use.
- Pull and tag plants
- Remove plants that do not meet quality standards.
-Experienced workers may occasionally drive ATVs, small trucks or tractors to move supplies and equipment on private dirt roads within the work site. - Keep all work and production areas free of debris and dead plants.
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain grounds, work areas, greenhouses, and warehouse areas.
- Perform any other related tasks within this classification as assigned
Special Requirements
Variable weather conditions. All work must be performed in a manner that exhibits generally Accepted Practices (GAP) and the utmost food safety at all times. The candidate must have at least 3-months of experience in agriculture, specifically related in peaches, almonds, cherries, and walnuts, to avoid crop damage and personal injury. Irrigating crops, setting and removing sprinklers, running wheel lines, driving equipment, operating pivots, flood irrigating,moving portable sprinklers, and installing drip tape. Verifiable work experience is required.
The worker must attend the required orientation, which time will be compensated.
