Job description
To perform various duties associated with the production of watermelons, soybeans, tobacco and vegetables such as greenhouse preparation, cultivating, preparing rows for planting, planting, fertilizing, harvesting, spraying, irrigating, loading & unloading of trucks, delivery of product to market, tractor driving, & general farm work. Job involves stooping, lifting and working outside in inclement weather & outdoor temps in excess of 100 degrees. Worker must possess requisite physical strength & endurance to repeat the harvest process throughout the workday, working quickly & skillfully to perform activities for which they were hired. Workers must work at a sustained, vigorous pace & make bona fide efforts to work efficiently & consistently that are reasonable under the climatic & other working conditions. Workers may not leave trash or other discarded items in work areas or vehicles but must dispose of such items in provided receptacles. Workers must wash hands with soap & water after all bathroom & meal breaks. Allergies to varieties of ragweed, goldenrod, insecticides, related agricultural chemicals, etc. may affect workers ability to perform the work described herein. Workers must be in good physical condition with the ability to stand for long periods of time, with considerable kneeling & stooping required. Raises and/or bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker employed pursuant to this job order, at the company's sole discretion, based on individual factors including work performance, skill, and tenure. Must be able to lift & carry up to 75lbs. Must have legal authority to work in the US. Workers may be required to take random, post-accident, and/or upon suspicion drug or alcohol test at no cost to worker, post hire. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment. General Conditions Applicable to All Crops: Work begins at an assigned time shortly after daylight. Work is performed under various weather conditions. Workers will use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects, load and unload trucks. Workers may drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers. All of the tasks in this job description constitute one (1) job; the employer may assign workers to different tasks on any day or to multiple tasks during the same day in the sole judgment of the employer. Workers may be required to perform work on the farm that is incidental to producing the crops such as performing hand weeding or hoeing, greenhouse/equipment/vehicle cleaning and repairing buildings, maintaining grounds, operate tractor/farm equipment, incidental crop setup when needed, and movement of irrigation systems and equipment, gardening, cleaning around ponds & fields with bush axe and/or sling blade to clear right of ways for machinery to enter work zones, etc. Workers may repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment by servicing, adjusting, testing machines, devices, and moving parts. Workers may observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions. This is a very demanding and competitive business in which quality specifications must be rigorously adhered to. Sloppy work cannot and will not be tolerated. Specific instructions and close supervision will be provided by the farm owner and/or supervisor designated by the grower. Workers will be expected to perform their duties in a timely and proficient manner and will have close supervision to insure adherence to instructions. Work will be closely monitored and reviewed for quality. Seven to eight hours per day is normal. Workers may be offered more than the specified work in a single day. The worker may be requested but not required to work 12-14 hours per day and/or on the Sabbath or Federal holidays depending upon the conditions in the fields, weather, and maturity of the crop.
Special Requirements
