Job description

The General Farm Ranch Hand position will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of cattle, sheep, grain and hay. Duties will include the following: check physical characteristics, observe general condition of livestock and apply the appropriate care, examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain to determine delivery time, assist in delivery and night calving and lambing, apply or administer medications/vaccines, mix feed/additives and feed/water livestock when not on the summer range; fill and move the creep feeders for the calves; place mineral blocks, drive equipment, herd livestock to various pastures, drive 4-wheeler to move livestock; confine livestock in stalls, clean/disinfect livestock corrals/stalls/sheds, dock, castrate, brand, clip/tag and clamp livestock. Worker will be required to operate farm equipment for planting, grain production and harvesting of hay; hoist/stack bales of hay onto wagon/truck, repair, replace, repair and build barbed wire fence, pick rocks, perform general cleanup of farm acreage, and drive/load/unload semi-trucks (on the ranch only). Worker will be required to perform routing mechanical repairs and maintenance on farm equipment; Worker must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision. The job entails working with farm animals and machinery, outdoors in all types of weather (extreme heat, wind, dust and cold) and occasional exposure to herding hazards such as cattle stampedes, kicking/bucking horses, poisonous snakes and predators. Worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. Driving is required on the ranch only – a Drivers’ License is not required.

Special Requirements

Average 36 per week, 6 hrs. per day, Mon-Sat. Hours will vary. Worker will be required to work odd/long hours and split shits during calving, lambing, grain production and harvesting of hay. Sunday - worker may be requested to work on Sunday but not obligated to do so.
