Job description

This ETA 790 job order is filed for Farmworker and Labors, Crop 45-2092.00. Workers will perform multiple duties associated with this SOC code and the code of Agricultural Equipment Operators (45-2091.00).

Hay Wheat, Rye Grass, Pasture Grass, & Straw: Workers must load hay bales weighting up to 60 lbs. from farm to tractor-trailers via a conveyor. Stacks hay on conveyor and restack in trailer according to instructions. Hay harvested is dropped at end of conveyor. Using hay hooks, worker places bales on conveyor while other workers in the barn stack hay in hay/mow according to direction. Hay and straw harvested averages about 2500 bales per day. Workers will spray pastures, plant pastures, and cutting pasture.

Farm Equipment Operation During Field Operations: Workers may be required to operate tractors and other farm equipment during field operations as an incidental activity in the production of crops. Before any worker is required to operate any farm equipment, the worker will be instructed in the proper and safe operation of tractor. Workers will be required to operate tractors according to instructions and in a manner, that protects the operator, other workers, trees, crops, and equipment. Repeated failure to obey operating and safety instructions may result in termination.

Feed and water livestock; and monitor food and water supplies. Drive trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals. Examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain. Mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions. Inspect, maintain, and repair equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, yards, and fences. Move equipment, or livestock from one location to another, manually or using trucks or carts. Clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, and/or pumps. Herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures. May be required to separate/sort livestock according to size and weight. Workers may be required to apply ID tags. Duties may include feeding, watering, herding, grazing, branding, weighing, catching, and loading animals. May maintain records on animals; examine animals to detect diseases and injuries; assist in birth deliveries; and administer medications, vaccinations, or insecticides as appropriate. May clean and maintain animal housing areas.

Sanitation Requirements: For food and general personal safety purposes, all workers will be required and expected to follow common sanitary practices at all times. This is particularly critical when hand harvesting crops for human consumption. Employees are required to cleanse their hands by washing them thoroughly with soap and water after using the bathroom and before entering the fields for harvest activities or the packing facility for packing operations.

Farm, and Field Sanitation - All workers will be responsible for picking up trash, cleaning bathrooms, sweeping floors and other farm sanitation duties.

Special Requirements

Must have three months experience working as a farm worker. Workers must possess a valid class D (or equivalent) drivers license or obtain one within thirty days of hire. Workers will operate trucks and other farm equipment both on site and on public roadways. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing at no cost to the employee. All drug testing will occur after the worker begins his or her employment and is not a part of the interview process. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
