Job description

The General Farm Ranch Hand position will be required to perform any combination of the following tasks for a livestock and farming operation: Assist with calving, feed cattle only during months when cattle are not on summer range. (Cattle are moved to summer pasture in May and do not require daily feeding from that point on.) Monitor, care for and move livestock using 4-wheelers to pastures for grazing; examine animals to detect diseases and injuries; place mineral blocks; vaccinate livestock, herd into corral and/or stall and manually restraining animals; maintain corrals and fences. Apply medications to cuts and bruises; spray livestock with insecticide; assist with castration of livestock; clip identifying notches or brands animals; manually clean stalls/corrals.
Must be able to operate tractors and farm implements required to plant, cultivate, and harvest hay and other crops; must manually hoist/stack hay bales; pick rocks, repair/replace fence in rough terrain as needed for maintenance. Worker will be asked to assist with farming operation to include: seeding, land rollling, and haying.
May be asked to spray weeds. Mechanical skills and experience are required to use equipment necessary to perform the tasks above. Worker will be required to perform routine mechanical repairs and maintenance on farm equipment. The job entails working around farm machinery, a variety of farm animals as well as exposure to predators and snakes. Most duties are performed out of doors, and entail exposure to extreme heat, cold, dust, rain and other environmental conditions. Worker must be able to crouch, bend, lift and carry up to 100 pounds. Additional hours and split shifts needed during haying, calving season. Worker will be required to obtain a Drivers' License within 2 months of hire.

Special Requirements

Employer provided items (at no cost to the worker): All tools and equipment necessary to perform the duties assigned as well as transportation between worker(s) on-site housing and the work site. A cell phone or two-way radio will be provided for emergency and ranch communications at no
cost to the worker (excluding long distance charges).
The expected work schedule may be required in a split shift due to the nature of the job duties. Hours may vary due to weather, time of year and the requirements of the job. Work may be offered more than the specified hours per day, but only required to work the hours specified. Work may be offered 7 days a week but only required 6 days a week. Extra hours may be offered during Calving, Seeding and Harvesting.
