Job description
General orchard work requires trimming and pruning, cutting away dead or excess branches from apple trees to maintain the health and value of the tree, using hand saws and pruners, step ladders, trimming clippers and pruning hooks. Workers ability to keep hands and arms steady while moving and trimming, ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach with your body, arms and/or legs. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Prepare fields and plant new trees. Harvest apples from tree and deposit them in a 3/4 bushel picking bucket to a bin. Manually harvest fruit using hand tools such as picking buckets, step ladders and boxes (bins). Apples injured by bruising during picking shall not exceed 1% (WNY) for fresh and 1% (WNY) for processing. Productivity must be at least 7 bins per day of fresh (20 bushel bin) or 8 bins per day of processing (20 bushel bin). Repair of apple bins, replace broken and damaged boards with new boards using a hammer and nails. Employer will furnish to workers, without cost, all tools and equipment required in the performance of the duties assigned. Workers should report to work in their own suitable work clothing. Field temperatures may range from 0 to 90+ degrees (F) with possible wet morning conditions.
