Job description
Drive and operate farm machinery such as tractors, ATVs, and self-propelled machinery to till soil, prepare fields, and plant crops; Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on farm vehicles, implements, and equipment; Set up and operate irrigation equipment, including laying pipes, maintaining ditches, and ensuring adequate water supply to crops; Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides to crops using hand sprayers and other equipment; Conduct regular crop inspections to monitor growth, pest activity, and plant health; Plant seeds and seedlings using various planting techniques and equipment, including seed drill sand planters; Cultivate crops through mechanical or manual methods, including weeding and applying fertilizers; Drive and control farm equipment to irrigate, cultivate, and harvest crops, adjusting implements as needed; Harvest crops using machinery or by hand, ensuring proper handling to maintain quality; Load and unload harvested crops into trucks or storage containers, maintaining organization and efficiency; Store and pack crops for transportation, preparing them for market or storage facilities; Transport harvested crops to storage facilities, operating trucks and conveyors as needed; Monitor grain moisture levels and assist with grain handling, including loading and unloading grain bins; Clean and maintain storage areas and equipment, ensuring operational efficiency; Perform general farm labor tasks as needed, including landscaping, clearing debris, and maintaining farm grounds; Assist with the disposal of spoiled grain and manage grain inventory as directed; Report any machinery malfunctions or operational issues to supervisors. There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. Workers may be asked, but are not required, to work on their Sabbath.
Special Requirements
Must be able to obtain driver's license. Must be able to use long handle hoe, shovel, pitchfork, buckets, and clippers. Due to the use of vehicles and heavy machinery, drug testing may be conducted post-hire at the employers expense and is not part of the interview process. All workers may be subject to mandatory testing if they have been involved in a reportable accident or upon reasonable suspicion that drug use is impacting job performance.
