Job description
Load and unload crops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, hand trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers. Mix specified
materials or chemicals, and dump solutions, powders, or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery. Spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to
control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers. Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment
malfunctions. Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery. Operate or tend equipment used in agricultural
production, such as tractors, combines, and irrigation equipment. Adjust, repair, and service farm machinery and notify supervisors when
machinery malfunctions. Load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, using forklifts, transfer augers, suction
gates, shovels, or pitchforks. Drive trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers. Record information about crops, such as pesticide
use, yields, or costs. Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant,
cultivate, spray and harvest crops. Load agricultural products into trucks, and drive trucks to market or storage facilities.
Clean work areas and maintain grounds and landscaping. Load or unload trucks or help others with loading or unloading, using special
loading-related equipment or other equipment as necessary. Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers. Report
any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles. Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires,
lights, or brakes, to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition. Load and unload trucks, vans, or automobiles.
Maintain records, such as vehicle logs, records of cargo, or billing statements, in accordance with regulations. Drive vehicles with capacities
under three tons to transport materials to and from specified destinations, such as railroad stations, plants, residences, offices, or within
industrial yards. Use and maintain the tools or equipment found on commercial vehicles, such as weighing or measuring devices. Perform
emergency repairs, such as changing tires or installing light bulbs, fuses, tire chains, or spark plugs. Related occupations. Measure, weigh,
and count products and materials. Record product, packaging, and order information on specified forms and records. Mark and label
containers, container tags, or products, using marking tools. Clean containers, materials, supplies, or work areas, using cleaning solutions and
hand tools. Place or pour products or materials into containers, using hand tools and equipment, or fill containers from spouts or chutes.
Special Requirements
Minimum of 3 months of experience is required. Must be able to obtain a driver's license within 30 days of hire. Lift and carry items weighing up
to 60 pounds. The worker will be exposed to extreme temperatures. Extensive sitting is required. Frequent stooping is required. Overtime and
taking holiday is mandatory. Wage rate may increase with verifiable experience. Employer may reward exceptional work with monetary or
other benefits in addition to those listed here in his sole discretion. Employer requires drug screen and criminal background check post-hire at
employers' expense due to the presence of children on the farm and expensive tools and equipment. Failure to pass drug screen and/or
criminal background check will result in termination of employment.
