Job description
The employees' responsibilities for producing hay and maintaining the property will include preparing fields by plowing, tilling, and clearing debris to ensure optimal growth conditions, and using equipment such as tractors, plows, and tillers. The employee will be responsible for planting appropriate grass and applying fertilizers or soil amendments with spreaders or sprayers. Irrigation systems may need to be set up and monitored. Hay production will involve operating mowers to cut hay at peak nutrition, rakes to form windrows for drying, and balers to create square or round bales. These tasks will require routine maintenance of equipment like tractors, balers, and mowers, as well as troubleshooting and maintenance to address any malfunctions. Bales are transported and stacked using loaders or forklifts to ensure proper storage and protection from pests or moisture. Property maintenance tasks include inspecting and repairing fences, controlling invasive weeds and pests using trimmers and sprayers, and maintaining the overall appearance of the grounds with mowers and other landscaping tools, including a skid steer. Employees will also manage water systems, such as cleaning drainage ditches or maintaining ponds, and inspect structures like barns and sheds for repairs. This will be done under extreme weather conditions such as heat and direct sunlight, cold weather, possible rain, wind and exposure to pollen. Physical conditions such as heavy bending, stooping and lifting will be involved on a regular basis.
Special Requirements
Must have 3 months of documented experience operating motorized farm equipment and be able to read and do simple math. Bilingual in English is a plus but not a requirement. Worker must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by supervisor and practice safety in all aspects of work. The employer is a drug-free workplace and has a zero tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol in the workplace and in the employer-provided housing.
