Job description

Crops/Commodities:
nursery field stock.
This job requires a minimum of 3 months of verifiable agricultural employment experience handling manual or mechanzied tasks. Applicants must be able to furnish verifiable job reference(s) or comparable third party documentation from recent employer(s) establishing acceptable prior experience. Workers will prepare and plant nursery product by taking plant cuttings from stock plants, plugs, bareroot stock and/or liners: Workers will maintain stock planting areas by pruning, removing weeds, roguing trees, and renovating areas by pulling and/or planting new material. Cleans/splits/divides/ prunes stock to prepare for planting. Fill trays/pots with soil on an assembly line or individual process and move filled trays/pots to greenhouses. Take prepared cuttings and stick into trays, using appropriate hormone and soil mix. Tag newly planted material.

Workers will perform put-down: Transfer or relocate plants, placing them on carts, trucks and wagons and then in organized blocks on greenhouse benches or hangers, in polyhuts, or on weedmat on the ground. Ensure plants are in the correct location and properly identified.
Workers will assist with procedures that encourage plant health and maintain appearance: Pull weeds from containers and stock plantings, prune plants, space plants to allow for proper growth, apply fertilizer, hand water when needed. Workers may be trained and required to apply pesticides with handheld, mechanical or motorized spray equipment.

Workers will pick ordered plants from the greenhouses, polyhuts, or outdoor beds and prepare and organize plants for shipping to wholesale customers: Select and grade ordered plants from growing locations. Load prepared plants onto wagons, trucks and carts. Prepare plants for shipping: clean leaves, weeds, debris and spent blooms from plants, trim for height, attach label. Place prepared plants onto wagons, trucks, carts and move to proper shipping location. Workers will box plants, secure boxes and weigh for shipping. Workers will palletize large orders to include selecting pallets, boxing, strapping boxes to secure to pallet, wrapping pallets with plastic film, moving pallets with pallet jack to be weighed on scale, and staged for pickup. Prepared shipments will be moved to proper shipping location for drivers to load.

Workers will prepare larger plants/trees for shipping or storage: Select ordered plants from growing locations by hand or with equipment. Unload plants at a designated location for storage, shipping for drivers to load onto trucks or planting into ground beds for stock plants.
Workers will assist the team to keep all areas including facilities and production sites weed-free, debris-free, organized, properly tagged and signed: May remove dead/poor quality trays and potted stock plants to dump area. May remove plastic weather polyhuts coverings in spring. May install plastic weather polyhuts coverings in fall. May assist the facility coach with irrigation, fertilization or other essential tasks or repairs directly related to growing when needed.
In addition, workers may drive tractors, ATV's, and pick up trucks on site. Clean carts and wagons; organize and store materials such as pots, flats, baskets, soil, tools; unload carts from trucks; clean carts and trucks by sweeping or hosing off; operate hand tools such as pruners, rakes, spades; lay weed-mat; print labels.

Workers with a clean driving record (no major moving violations such as but not limited to Driving While Intoxicated or Reckless Driving) and able to obtain an insurable driver's license may be required to drive company vehicles. Workers with appropriate licenses and a valid doctor's certificate may be asked to drive other workers.

Workers may assist in loading trucks with nursery stock and materials weighing up to 80 lbs. and lifting to a height of 5 feet, including loading empty wooden pallets.

Special Requirements

This job requires a minimum of 3 months of verifiable agricultural employment experience handling manual or mechanzied tasks. Applicants must be able to furnish verifiable job reference(s) or comparable third party documentation from recent employer(s) establishing acceptable prior experience. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 80 lbs.
