Job description

Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Following the Supervisors instructions, the worker will perform the following tasks:

Sweet Potatoes: Workers will transplant, top, and harvest sweet potatoes in the fields indicated. Workers will transplant by hand and using agricultural machinery. Topping (pinching off the tips of sweet potato vines) will be conducted by hand. Workers will harvest the sweet potatoes by hand and place them into buckets. Workers will then carry the buckets and empty the sweet potatoes into boxes located in a truck in the field.

Bucket Unloading: Worker will stand inside the plastic or wood boxes and receive full buckets of sweet potatoes from other workers who have harvested the potatoes. The worker will then unload the sweet potatoes into the boxes.

Tobacco Planting: Workers will transplant tobacco plants by hand by removing a tobacco plant from a tray and placing it into the ground. The worker will also remove any suckers (suckering) and flower buds (topping) from the tobacco plant by hand.

Tobacco Harvesting: Workers will harvest tobacco by hand by pulling three (3) or four (4) leaves at a time from a plant and placing the leaves in the trailer. Once the leaves are taken to the barn, workers will places the harvested tobacco into boxes to prepare for the heating process. After the tobacco leaves have cured, the worker will remove the tobacco and bale it by filling a metal container to the desired weight and compacting the leaves together into bales.

Weeding: Workers will remove weeds by hand from fields as needed, including sweet potato, tobacco, soybean, and wheat fields. Weeds will be left in the fields and are not placed in containers.

Workers must be able to lift and carry at least 35 pounds and be able to walk long distances in various weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures. Workers must be at least 18 years old

Percentage job duties employment distribution: General farm labor services (planting, loading, unloading, cutting, harvesting, etc.) - 70%; Unloading Buckets - 20 %; Driving agricultural equipment - 10%.

Special Requirements

EB Harvesting may conduct a Drug/Alcohol test or conduct a criminal background post-employment at the employer's expense. Per the Department of Labor O-Net survey for job code 45.2092.02, Job Zone 1, SVP <4.0, the employer requires 1-month verifiable harvesting experience.

To perform any job duty that may require employees to drive any agricultural equipment vehicle, the driver must possess proper and current valid driver license class C as it is required in North Carolina, or its foreign equivalent.

Workers must have a valid drivers license or obtain one within 30 days.
