Job description

General farm labor including, but not limited to: Operate various tractors and farm equipment to till soil; work ground; prepare and maintain land; and plant, irrigate, fertilize, spray, cultivate, harvest, and transport crops to elevator or storage area. Equipment includes but is not limited to: Tractors with various implements, sprayers, combines, back-hoes, mowers, track-hoes, ATVs/side-by-sides, and trucks. Irrigation activities, including laying pipe; walking length of pipe to puncture it at set intervals; setting up and operating irrigation equipment; clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches; operating well motors; operating and maintaining pivots; draining excess water from fields; monitoring fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops; building, constructing, and maintaining levees; installing and removing levy gates and putting in spillways. Manual duties include but are not limited to: Loading seed into planters; properly mixing chemicals; loading chemicals into sprayers; changing combine cutting heads; roughing fields and using hand-tools to remove undesirable plant varieties, rocks, trash, and other objects from fields; welding; performing general maintenance, repairs, and/or clean-up of storage sheds, pivot points, buildings, fences, gates, barns, and all farm equipment; ensuring operational areas are organized and well maintained; using hand-tools and equipment, repair, clean, and maintain farm vehicles, machinery, specialized machinery, and agricultural equipment; regularly service equipment; mowing and landscaping around the farm; and lifting items as needed. Other duties include: Receiving crop for drying and storage at grain storage facility; disposing of spoiled grain; transporting grain from fields to bins; loading and unloading grain into trucks while keeping grain level; operating augers and grain conveying equipment; monitoring grain moisture levels; preparing scale tickets; and shoveling grain. Cattle/hay production duties include: Drive trucks to haul hay crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers; cut, rake, bale, and move hay; check on cows daily; tag cows; move cows from fields; feed cows; provide water; assist with medication; pasture maintenance, including clean fence rows; cut up down trees; raking and picking up limbs.

There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. Workers may be asked, but are not required, to work on their Sabbath.
