Job description
This is a job description for shellfish: Oysters and clams.
Bottom/Longline Culture Oyster Picker:
These oysters are intended for the shucked market and large (4"+) live oyster market. Both start out by setting the seed on oyster beds in setting tanks. Bottom culture grows on the ground, and long line culture the "mother" shell with seed is threaded into three strand poly rope. Once planted grow out time will be 3-5 years. Each daily harvest will range from 500-1000 bushels. Crews are responsible for loading/unloading the setting tanks, stacking bags of seed once they're out on the bed, breaking open the bags of seed into 25-bushel tubs or for longlines threading the rope into PVC pipes in the ground, blowing the seed off of the deck of a vessel with a water hose, hand picking the oysters when they are ready to be moved or harvested and unloading the harvest off of the boat.
