Job description
Diversified Crops.
Planting and Crop Maintenance:
Plant seeds, plugs, vegetable plants, fruit trees, and berry bushes.
Dig, cut, and transplant seedlings, cuttings, trees, and shrubs as required.
Dig, rake, and screen soil, preparing cold frames and hot beds for planting.
Set up and operate irrigation systems to water crops as needed.
Set up mushroom blocks for fruiting - maintain sterile area for growth.
Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and other treatments based on crop requirements and pest control needs.
Weed, spray, prune, and fertilize plants to ensure optimal growth and yield.
Harvest and Post-Harvest Handling:
Harvest vegetables, fruit, and mushrooms by hand.
Participate in inspection, grading, sorting, and packaging of vegetable crops.
Ensure proper storage and post-harvest processing, including labeling and potting as necessary.
Clean and maintain post harvest pack and wash facilities.
Field Equipment Operation:
Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery for plowing, harrowing, fertilizing, planting, cultivating, spraying, and harvesting crops.
Safely load agricultural products into trucks and transport them to on-farm storage facilities.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Monitor crop progress and report any concerns or recommendations to the farm manager.
Identify pests, weeds, and plant health issues to determine the need for treatment.
Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance:
Mow grass, spread mulch, prune trees, and maintain overall farm aesthetics.
Clean and organize work areas, keeping tools and equipment in good condition.
Additional Tasks:
Assist with general farm upkeep, including maintaining pathways and cleaning common areas.
Other tasks as assigned.
Special Requirements
Workers will perform work on a vegetable farm and will usually do their tasks outdoors in all kinds of weather. Must work full time, and some work more than 40 hours per week. We need workers who have had a minimum 1 month experience working in vegetable crop production. The training program is designed to ensure farmworkers understand our farm operations, tool use, and safety protocols. Training will cover farm operations, covering crop types, planting schedules, maintenance routines, and farm policies on safety, hygiene, and productivity. Workers will receive hands-on training in the proper use, handling, and maintenance of essential tools and targeted demonstrations will be provided for seeding, transplanting, weeding, pruning, and harvesting, as well as pest management and irrigation system maintenance.
