Job description

Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of wheat, corn, alfalfa seed, mint, onions, radish seed, and grapes.
The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production.
General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: maintain, drive, attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; remove rocks from field; paint/repair/maintain farm structures; maintain/repair fencing; perform general clean-up of farm areas; operate vehicle, motor bike or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; transport crops to market; plant onions by walking behind tractors to observe planter (unclog planter if necessary); weed onions using hand tools to remove weeds from fields; stack produce on pallets; place produce in buckets; lift and stack produce boxes weighing 50 pounds on a sustained basis; pick or cut crop from plant, soil, stem, or root; even out rows for harvest; gather bagged crops from field and transfer into bins; remove unwanted debris from binning line; drive/operate equipment to stack/ organize bins at the storage; prepare crops for shipment; harvest, sort, and gather crop by hand; drive/operate equipment to stack/ organize bins at the onion storage; sort produce according to grade, color and size; discard diseased/rotting/inferior product and foreign matter; clean up around conveyors and worksite; place produce in containers or on designated conveyors; repair and load onion bins; trim and cut overgrowth; fix, install, remove trellises and wire; plant/remove plants; trap gofers; drive, load/unload farm trucks and Ag exempt, non CDL semi/10-wheel trucks and Ag exempt, non CDL 2 or 3 axle trucks; backup trucks in tight maneuvering condition; climb in and out of tall trucks and various truck beds and or trailers several times a day; operate tractors/farm trucks to load/unload products; work with augers, gas motors, generators and electrical cords; watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure machine is working properly; adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions; keep a daily log of products and vehicle service; keep trucks in working order by performing small repairs and conducting daily general maintenance duties on mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment; report truck problems to farm mechanic; workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers.

Special Requirements

Applicants must have 3 months experience with farm/irrigation work and provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance. Applicants hired must be able to obtain a valid drivers license as driving on public roads may be required
